Greco Bianco

Also known as Greco di Gerace in Calabria or Malvasia di Lipari in Aeolian Islands

Warm climate

About

Calabria's own white, salty and citrus-edged along the Ionian coast and the heart of the rare Greco di Bianco passito, where grapes dry on reed mats into amber, honeyed sweetness. Despite the name it is a different variety from Campania's Greco of Greco di Tufo; DNA work ties the Bianco and Gerace plantings to Malvasia di Lipari. Dry versions are saline, fresh, and made for the fish grill.
