Estrella District
Paso Robles
The largest and warmest district in Paso Robles, on the eastern side where the Estrella River runs through broad, flat terrain. Hot days and cool nights produce ripe, bold reds from Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Rhône varieties.
The wines of Estrella District are made primarily from Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and other Paso Robles varieties.

Climate
The broad, flat river valley creates a heat sink effect with the warmest daytime temperatures in Paso Robles, while the openness to marine influence through the Templeton Gap allows for significant nighttime cooling. The lack of elevation and protective hills makes it more exposed to both heat accumulation and cooling winds than the more sheltered western districts.
Terroir
The Estrella District sits atop Tertiary marine sedimentary formations with underlying Monterey Formation shale and sandstone bedrock. Alluvial deposits from the Estrella River have created deep, well-draining sandy loam soils with calcareous inclusions from ancient marine fossils, allowing vine roots to penetrate deeply while maintaining good drainage despite the relatively high water table from river proximity.
