Terroir & Character
Climate
The east-facing exposure provides excellent morning sun while offering protection from harsh afternoon heat, creating a relatively cool microclimate. The elevation and slope position on the Corton hill provides good air circulation and frost protection compared to the valley floor.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, rich in marine fossils including belemnites and ammonites. A layer of Argovian marl caps much of the slope, providing excellent drainage while allowing vine roots to penetrate deep into the fractured limestone substrate. The porous limestone ensures good water retention during dry periods while preventing waterlogging.
