Climate
The flat, low-lying position creates a slightly warmer microclimate than the hillside appellations, with good air circulation from the plains preventing frost issues. The eastern location receives morning sun while being somewhat protected from harsh western winds, contributing to the approachable, fruit-forward style of the wines.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Quaternary alluvial deposits over Jurassic limestone bedrock, with clay and gravel soils formed from ancient river terraces of the Rhoin stream. The clay component provides water retention while gravel layers ensure adequate drainage, allowing roots to penetrate moderately deep into the limestone subsoil. This geological structure creates good water management without the stress-inducing conditions found on the steeper slopes of neighboring communes.
