Climate
Protected by surrounding hills, Savigny-lès-Beaune enjoys a slightly warmer microclimate than higher elevation sites, with good air circulation through the valley that reduces frost risk and humidity.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, with outcrops of fossiliferous limestone containing marine fossils. Marl and clay-limestone mixtures create moderate drainage while retaining enough moisture for the vines, with the permeable limestone allowing roots to penetrate deeply into fissured bedrock.
