Terroir & Classification

Soils

Marsannay sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, overlaid with Oligocene marl deposits and Quaternary gravel alluvium from ancient alluvial fans. The mixed soil structure provides excellent drainage through the limestone base while the marl retains sufficient moisture, allowing vine roots to penetrate deeply into the fractured bedrock.
