Climate
As the northernmost Côte de Nuits village, Fixin experiences slightly cooler temperatures and later ripening than southern neighbors. The elevation and exposure to northern winds create a more continental influence, requiring careful site selection for optimal Pinot Noir maturation.
Terroir
Fixin sits on Middle Jurassic limestone bedrock (Bajocian and Bathonian stages) with overlying marl deposits that provide excellent drainage while retaining some moisture. The limestone base allows vine roots to penetrate deeply while the marl content offers good water retention during dry periods. Fossil-rich soils from ancient marine sediments contribute mineral complexity to the wines.
