Terroir & Classification
Soils
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, interlayered with marl and clay deposits that contain abundant marine fossils including ammonites and belemnites. The limestone provides excellent drainage while the clay-rich marls retain moisture, allowing vine roots to penetrate deep into fissured bedrock while maintaining access to water during dry periods.

Microclimate
The town's position creates a slightly warmer mesoclimate than appellations further north, with good air circulation that reduces frost risk but can make the wines more robust and structured. The broader valley opening allows for better sun exposure while maintaining the cooling influence of morning mists.
