Terroir & Character
Climate
Protected from harsh western winds by the Côte d'Or escarpment, creating a warmer microclimate than northern neighbors like Gevrey-Chambertin. The gentle slopes and optimal exposure provide excellent sun exposure while maintaining good air circulation to prevent excessive heat buildup.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, with a complex mix of Comblanchien limestone and marlstone creating excellent drainage while retaining moisture. The slopes feature varying depths of clay-limestone soils over hard limestone, allowing roots to penetrate deep into fissured bedrock while maintaining good water regulation.
