Climate
The appellation benefits from a slightly cooler microclimate than Pouilly-Fuissé due to higher elevation and more exposure to cooling winds from the west. This results in slower ripening and enhanced acidity retention in the Chardonnay grapes.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the same geological formation as nearby Pouilly-Fuissé, with clay-limestone soils providing excellent drainage while retaining sufficient moisture. The underlying limestone contains marine fossils and creates a well-drained subsoil that forces vine roots to dig deep, contributing to the mineral character of the wines.
