The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian stages, rich in marine fossils including gryphaea and belemnites. A thin layer of clay-limestone soils overlays the bedrock, providing excellent drainage while the limestone's fissured structure allows vine roots to penetrate deeply, accessing mineral-rich water reserves.
