Climate
Protected by the Combe de Lavaux to the west, Vougeot enjoys slightly warmer conditions than neighboring villages due to its lower elevation position and shelter from prevailing winds. The proximity to the valley floor creates morning mist that extends the growing season while the eastern exposure ensures optimal sun exposure throughout the day.
Terroir
The vineyards sit on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian period, rich in marine fossils including belemnites and brachiopods. The soils feature a complex mixture of limestone debris, clay-rich marl, and colluvial deposits that have washed down from the hillside, creating excellent drainage while allowing roots to penetrate deep into the fractured limestone subsoil.
