Mosel appellations
The tiny Ruwer valley is home to just a handful of producers but includes some of Germany's most celebrated estates. Karthäuserhof and Maximin Grünhaus produce Rieslings of ethereal delicacy, with floral aromatics and a light-footed elegance that is unmistakably Ruwer.

Terroir & Character
Climate
The narrow Ruwer valley creates a cooler, more sheltered microclimate than the main Mosel, with higher humidity and morning fog that extends the growing season. The valley's orientation and surrounding forests provide protection from harsh winds while maintaining the cool temperatures essential for elegant Riesling development.
Terroir
The Ruwer valley sits on Devonian slate bedrock from the Lower Devonian period, composed primarily of weathered clay slate and blue slate formations. This fractured slate provides excellent drainage while allowing vine roots to penetrate deeply into the mineral-rich substrate, with the slate's heat retention properties moderating soil temperature.
