Bereich Ruwer
Mosel
The tiny Ruwer valley is home to just a handful of producers but includes some of Germany's most celebrated estates. Karthäuserhof and Maximin Grünhaus produce Rieslings of ethereal delicacy, with floral aromatics and a light-footed elegance that is unmistakably Ruwer.
The wines of Bereich Ruwer are made primarily from Riesling. Delicate, low alcohol, steely.

Terroir & Classification
Soils
The Ruwer valley is underlain by Devonian slate bedrock with interspersed clay slate formations, creating well-draining soils that force vine roots to penetrate deep into fractured rock layers. The slate's ability to retain and slowly release heat, combined with excellent drainage properties, prevents waterlogging while maintaining consistent moisture availability at depth.
Classification
Village appellation. No classified premier cru vineyards, but the village-level wines consistently offer genuine Mosel character at approachable prices.
Elevation
150-250m, primarily south and southeast-facing slopes
Microclimate
The narrow valley creates a sheltered microclimate that is slightly warmer and more protected from harsh winds than the main Mosel, while morning mists from the Ruwer stream provide additional humidity that extends the growing season.
Typical Aromas
Grapes of Mosel
