Congosto

Bierzo

Eastern Bierzo, on the slate-and-clay slopes above the Boeza and Sil valleys. Mostly Mencía from lower-slope vineyards, with a handful of paraje-classified sites at higher altitude.

The wines of Congosto are made primarily from Godello, Mencía.

Climate

The eastern flank of Bierzo, climbing toward the Montes Aquilianos. Cooler than the central valley with stronger continental influence — late spring frost is the main risk, and the diurnal swing is the widest in the DO. Long, slow ripening preserves acidity and lift.

Terroir

SlateClay

Mixed terroir of slate, schist, and weathered river terraces. The Camino de Santiago corridor cuts through here; vineyards are scattered between Roman roads and medieval villages on south-facing slopes carved by the Boeza and Meruelo rivers.
