Blagny
Burgundy
Côte d’Or & Côte Chalonnaise
A rare red-only appellation straddling the border between Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. Blagny produces structured, slightly rustic Pinot Noir from high-altitude vineyards. White wines from the same seven Premier Cru climats are sold as Meursault or Puligny-Montrachet Premier Cru. It is a curiosity worth seeking out for anyone exploring the lesser-known corners of Burgundy.
The wines of Blagny are made primarily from Pinot Noir.

Terroir & Character
Climate
The elevated position creates cooler temperatures and stronger winds than the lower Meursault and Puligny vineyards, resulting in later ripening and more austere tannin structure. The exposed hillside location also experiences greater diurnal temperature variation, contributing to the wine's characteristic structure and mineral precision.
Terroir
Blagny sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock of the Bathonian formation, with significant marl deposits containing Ostrea acuminata fossils. The high-altitude position creates excellent drainage through the porous limestone, forcing vine roots deep into the mineral-rich subsoil while the marl component provides water retention during dry periods.
