Terroir & Character
Climate
Protected by the Combe de Lavaux to the west, Gevrey-Chambertin enjoys a slightly warmer microclimate than villages further south, with good air circulation that reduces frost risk and promotes even ripening.
Terroir
The bedrock consists of Jurassic limestone from the Comblanchien formation, overlaid with Bathonian marl and clay deposits that create excellent drainage while retaining sufficient moisture. The limestone bedrock allows deep root penetration and provides mineral complexity, while the marl and clay mixture higher on the slopes offers better water retention during dry periods.
