Climate
Givry benefits from a slightly warmer microclimate than other Côte Chalonnaise appellations due to its more sheltered valley position and favorable exposition. The limestone soils provide excellent heat retention, extending the growing season and contributing to the appellation's reputation for producing some of the most approachable wines in the region.
Terroir
The Givry appellation sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, rich with marine fossils including belemnites and ammonites. The soils consist primarily of white limestone mixed with marl, creating excellent drainage on the slopes while allowing sufficient water retention for the vines, with roots able to penetrate deep into the fractured limestone bedrock.
