Terroir & Character
Climate
Rully benefits from a slightly warmer microclimate than northern Côte Chalonnaise appellations due to its sheltered valley position and eastern exposure. The limestone slopes provide good air circulation and frost protection, while morning sun exposure ensures optimal ripening conditions.
Terroir
Rully sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, rich in marine fossils including oysters and belemnites. The limestone is interlayered with marl deposits that provide excellent drainage while retaining sufficient moisture, allowing vine roots to penetrate deep into the fractured bedrock.
