Rully sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, rich with marine fossils including belemnites and brachiopods. The soils are predominantly composed of limestone mixed with marl, creating excellent drainage on the slopes while allowing deeper root penetration into the softer marl layers.
