Terroir & Classification
Soils
Saint-Aubin sits on Jurassic limestone bedrock from the Bathonian and Bajocian periods, rich in fossilized marine organisms. The upper slopes feature thin soils over hard limestone providing excellent drainage, while mid-slope parcels have deeper marl deposits that retain moisture and allow deeper root penetration.

Microclimate
Protected by hills from harsh winds, Saint-Aubin enjoys a slightly cooler microclimate than Puligny-Montrachet due to higher elevation and more exposure to cooling influences from the west. The amphitheater-like valley formation creates excellent air circulation that reduces frost risk while maintaining freshness.
