About Eisenberg

A narrow strip along the Hungarian border in southern Burgenland, producing some of Austria's most distinctive Blaufränkisch from green-tinted iron-bearing slate ("Eisenberg" = "iron mountain"). Wines are fine-boned, peppery, and minerally — quite different from the heavier Mittelburgenland style. Tiny region (just 515 hectares), with leading growers Krutzler and Wachter-Wiesler.
