About Traisental
Austria's smallest DAC, on the south bank of the Traisen south of Krems. Just 815 hectares of vineyards on terraced limestone (Konglomerat) above the river, dedicated almost entirely to Grüner Veltliner and Riesling. The bedrock — dense, fossil-rich Konglomerat unique to this stretch of the Alpine foothills — gives wines a sharp mineral, stony quality and is the region's defining feature.

Cool continental, with strong diurnal swings between alpine cold-air drainage and Pannonian warmth. Long, slow ripening preserves acidity in Riesling and Grüner Veltliner alike.

Konglomerat — a limestone-cemented gravel/conglomerate from prehistoric Alpine river deposits — is the trademark, with loess overlays on lower slopes. Famous Rieden include Berg, Zwirch, and Alte Setzen.
