Eola-Amity Hills

Willamette Valley

Directly in the path of the Van Duzer Corridor, a gap in the Coast Range that channels cool Pacific wind into the valley. This makes it one of Oregon's coolest growing sites, producing Pinot Noir with racy acidity, floral aromatics, and a savory mineral edge.

The wines of Eola-Amity Hills are made primarily from Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Pinot Gris.

Climate

The Van Duzer Corridor funnels cool Pacific marine air directly through this appellation, creating afternoon wind speeds up to 35 mph that moderate temperatures and extend the growing season. This wind effect makes Eola-Amity Hills significantly cooler than neighboring appellations, producing wines with higher natural acidity and more restrained ripeness.

Terroir

Volcanic basaltMarine sediment

The Eola-Amity Hills sit atop ancient Siletz River Volcanics, primarily basaltic pillow lavas and marine sedimentary interbeds from oceanic crust that was accreted to the continent 50+ million years ago. The volcanic basalt provides excellent drainage through fractured bedrock, while marine sediment layers retain some moisture, forcing vine roots deep and creating ideal stress conditions for Pinot Noir.
