Südsteiermark (South Styria) is Austria's answer to Sancerre: a region that has made its name with crystalline, precise Sauvignon Blanc. The steep, terraced hillsides along the Slovenian border produce some of Austria's most exciting white wines. Beyond Sauvignon Blanc, the region excels with Gelber Muskateller, Morillon (Chardonnay), and Welschriesling.
