About Südsteiermark
Südsteiermark (South Styria) is Austria's answer to Sancerre: a region that has made its name with crystalline, precise Sauvignon Blanc. The steep, terraced hillsides along the Slovenian border produce some of Austria's most exciting white wines. Beyond Sauvignon Blanc, the region excels with Gelber Muskateller, Morillon (Chardonnay), and Welschriesling. The best vineyards sit on south-facing slopes with dramatic views across the rolling green hills.

Terroir & Character
Climate
Cool continental climate with warm days and cold nights, moderated by elevation and influenced by Mediterranean air currents from the south. This creates ideal conditions for slow ripening and excellent acidity retention.
Terroir
Predominantly slate, schist, and volcanic soils on steep south-facing slopes. The mineral-rich soils combined with excellent drainage from the hillside sites contribute to the wines' characteristic precision and elegant mineral backbone.
