About Friuli-Venezia Giulia
Italy's northeast corner produces some of the country's finest white wines. The hillside vineyards of Collio and Colli Orientali del Friuli, bordering Slovenia, yield complex, textured whites from Friulano, Ribolla Gialla, Pinot Grigio, and Sauvignon Blanc. The region is also the birthplace of Italy's natural wine movement, with pioneers like Gravner and Radikon popularizing skin-contact 'orange' wines made in buried clay amphorae. The flat plains near the coast produce lighter, higher-volume wines, but the hills are where Friuli's reputation lives. The cultural blend of Italian, Slavic, and Austrian influences gives the wines a character unlike anywhere else in Italy.

Terroir & Character
Climate
A unique blend of Alpine, continental, and maritime influences creates warm days and cool nights. The Bora wind from the northeast helps maintain acidity and prevents disease, while the Adriatic Sea moderates temperatures, resulting in wines with both richness and remarkable freshness.
Terroir
Incredibly diverse soils ranging from the gravelly alluvial deposits of Grave del Friuli to the limestone and marl hillsides of Collio. The famous 'ponca' soil of Collio – a mix of sandstone and marl – is particularly prized for white wines, while the iron-rich red soils of Buttrio excel with reds.
