Württembergisch Unterland
Württemberg
The largest and most-planted Bereich of Württemberg, around Heilbronn and the lower Neckar. Trollinger and Lemberger are the historical reds; serious Riesling, Schwarzriesling and a growing Spätburgunder scene round out the modern picture. The VDP-led Erste Lage and Große Lage classifications have reshaped quality expectations in the past two decades.
The wines of Württembergisch Unterland are made primarily from Pinot Noir, Riesling, Blaufränkisch and other Württemberg varieties.

Climate
The Neckar valley creates a warm corridor, sheltered by the Löwensteiner Berge to the north and east. Continental influence with warm summers and moderate rainfall. Föhn winds from the Black Forest occasionally raise temperatures.
Terroir
Keuper marl, shell limestone (Muschelkalk), and loess. The best sites sit on steep Keuper slopes with good drainage. Heuchelberg, Stromberg, and the Neckar valley sides provide the most prized terroir.
